The Old Town churches house real treasures. You will find numerous monuments of sacred art, paintings, sculptures, goldsmiths' works of art, tapestries and embroideries, almost miraculously preserved.
The St John's Cathedral deserves special attention. Its history goes back to the early 14th century. This is where kings' coronations took place, and where the Constitution of 3rd May was sworn. The underground crypts contain the vaults of Mazovian knights, bishops, famous Poles and the last of the Polish Kings - Stanislaus Augustus Poniatowski.
