It is definitely worthwhile paying a visit to the oldest and largest necropolis – the Powązki cemetery. It was established in 1790, making it the oldest, and at the same time the most beautiful of Warsaw's cemeteries.

Powazki is full of beautiful Classicist, Neo- Gothic, Secessionist and Art Deco style tombs, carved in stone as well as made from cast- iron. The remains of over 2 million Warsovians rest in Powazki.

Another important sites are Jewish Cemetery and the Nozyks Synagogue (the only synagogue in Warsaw open to the general public), which houses the artefacts of the cultural heritage of the Jews who inhabited these parts of Warsaw before the war.

Other sights commemorating the old Ghetto include Umschlagplatz (the place from which trains set off for the concentration camps), the Monument of the Ghetto Heroes, the ruins of the Ghetto walls (at 55 Sienna Street).

Don't miss the Jewish Theatre (the only professional Yiddish- language theater in Europe).
